Dearest Pupils, Scribblers, and Scribes,
As we move deeper into Season 3, we’re recognizing deeper work needs to happen in the realm of collaboration and ownership. Conversations are popping up regarding how best to interact with other Guilds and projects and we’re making progress on addressing issues that were hardly considered, nor problematic, until recently. This is both the challenge and the benefit of growth.
We build, and we grow, and with this comes change. Gone are the days of handshake agreements and verbal contracts. We’re still on the frontier, but as we push forward and explore new land, we must develop those spaces in which our community is focused upon settling. So as you continue to write, edit, and publish, consider your part in the development of the Guild. Let’s dive in and discover how we’re developing.
Welcome to The Scribe’s Quill.

We need editorial writers!
Every week, we are looking to develop our editorial backlog for the Weekly Rollup and State of the DAOs. If you have a topic you would like to write about, please add it to the backlog. If there is an OPEN item that you would like to write, add your name to claim it!
The Newsletter Team will be collecting referral fees! 🤑
Last week, Jake and Stake and siddhearta put together an amendment for the Newsletter Team to lead and execute the KeeperDAO Referral Program. That amendment has received the required votes to pass, but if you haven’t read the proposal please cast your vote! The team plans to use any referral fees to buy back BANK, setting in motion a larger initiative for projects and subDAOs to use revenue generating activities to bolster the value of BANK.

This week in the Writers Workshop, Siddhearta presented On Reading: How to Read Like a Writer. We discussed what your reading diet could look like to best cultivate your writing skills. Catch up on the conversation here.
We encourage you to sign up to present topics! You will be bribed with collab.land tips until we set up a more formal bounty structure. Check out our topic ideas and sign up to present one!
We’re also kicking off a month-long writing “sprint” on February 21 where we will incentivize writers with more BANK to get their articles in during that month and fill up our backlog of pieces. A list of topic ideas is coming soon. Until then, vote in the poll so we can decide what to call it!
The EPA is continuing to think of how we will fit within the DAO as we grow and scale. Pertinent conversation topics continue to arise. Be thinking about these things as you go about your day-to-day in the DAO:
Revenue generation and sponsorship avenues once we migrate to the website.
Incentivizing more writers to write, assigning topics, and possibly setting deadlines.
Marketing for our articles so we can reach a wider audience.
Lastly, be on the lookout for some Proof of Writing POAPs coming to your DMs soon. Let’s build that on-chain resume!
See you around!

First, I’d like to give a shoutout to those who recently passed our editing and/or writing test:
l33
Sdnegel
Congratulations to both of you!
I have provided the editing and writing tests to several other people recently, so I’m looking forward to giving more shoutouts next week!
While on the topic of tests, the coordination team has agreed that the writing test needs to better reflect the skills required for newsletter tasks. This week, I’m going to be redesigning the test with the aim of achieving that.
The new test will require summarising and evaluating a recent forum post. This will help demonstrate not only people’s writing skills but research and critical thinking skills.
Recently, we have had a number of people mention that they are unable to attend some of our meetings due to the times they take place. I have suggested creating a second weekly Talent Scout Office Hours to help keep people up to date on what’s going on. If you would find this helpful, please let me know your availability: https://lettucemeet.com/l/a84Po
That’s all from me for this week.
Ap0ll0517.eth | Secretary
This past weekend was payday! You will notice a small difference in our treasury since last week. Only our BANK holdings were changed. All of our other assets remained the same. We awarded 171K BANK to our governance role holders for previous and current salaries. Transaction details can be found here.
You can see that we still have over 400K BANK left in the Writers Guild multi-sig after recent remunerations. Keep in mind that 50K BANK is allocated for bounties and apprenticeship roles for each governance office. The secretarial office has around 15k BANK for those purposes. There is also 75K BANK budgeted for a WG Coordinape round at the end of the season.
If you’re interested in the secretarial office, Ap0ll0517 is holding open office hours every Friday following the weekly CC. He will be demonstrating the process of remunerating contributors. This will include recording bounties, creating a .csv file to send a bulk payment, and also an overview of using parcel.money. (There may be some bounties available for potential secretary apprentices.) Until then, happy writing!

As stated above in the introduction to this edition, our rate of growth has brought us to a point where we are beginning to grapple with issues that once upon a time were unquestioned, or largely assumed. With the advent of Staff Editors, we have the opportunity to tighten our focus on what matters most to the Guild, and outsource what lies outside the scope of our expertise, things that can be managed by other teams across DAO. In doing so, however, the deep work of integration and collaboration with other entities needs to be done. As our Guild matures alongside others, it will take more than a simple handshake and implied agreements to come to the right terms of collaboration. In some cases, collaboration may require a shift in how we operate.
As we continue to grow, I encourage you to review everything with both criticism and optimism. Criticism, because not all ideas have merit, and those that do will require refinement; and optimism, because in seeking to implement ideas, it often takes time to reap the benefits of those ideas. Living and working on the frontier is strange, because at every turn, we are having to build new systems and structures to develop the ground we cover.
To the point of criticism, it is possible to be critical of ideas respectfully. We have such great conversations that arise in the Guild. We can continue to foster an environment where the exchange of ideas is fun and exhilarating, and still uphold a high degree of critical thinking across the ideas being presented.
Let us enter the next stage in the Guild’s evolution with courage and intelligence, with a critical eye and compassionate heart. We’ve come a long way, but still have far to go.
And we’re going. Higher and higher, we’re going. Let’s fly, Writers Guild!
In service to you, the Guild, and the DAO,
