Dearest Members of the Writers Guild,
With the onset of Season 3, we are already making big moves. As discussion in the EPA turns to the creation of an Editors’ Circle—which will be expounded upon by Samantha in her update below—there is a case for reorganizing Guild resources to leverage this new body. Diagrams and discussions have been passed around at length, and we’re slowly approaching a model that will serve us well over the next Season. Or two. Or three. Let’s dive in and see what’s coming down the pipeline.
Welcome to The Scribe’s Quill.

DAO Heat is coming up! Here are details from FreedomFighter:
DAO Heat is a BanklessDAO inter-guild collaboration contest. It was founded in the spirit of developing stronger guild relationships and for providing writers and designers new opportunities to earn BANK. Each contest will have a specific theme and format picked out by the founders in collaboration with Writing and Design Guild members.
DAO Heat will be a two-stage contest:
Writing Competition: writers will submit pieces based on the entry criteria. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 entries. The 1st place entry will piece serve as the inspiration for the next stage.
Design Competition: Based on the winning written piece, designers will work their magic to produce creative designs. Again, three winners will be chosen.
Prizes for both the competitions:
First Prize: 3000 BANK
Second Prize: 2000 BANK
Third Prize: 1000 BANK
The icing on the cake: the winning design will be converted into a set of 50 limited edition NFTs. The winning writer and designer will each receive 10% of the proceeds from the NFT sales.
The first contest is going to launch Monday 31st Jan, so keep a lookout for the writing task. Also, if you have any questions or would just like to find out more, we are holding a launch party on February 1st at 18:00 UTC in the Writers Room, so come join us!

Congratulations to Cheetah for stepping up to take over the Lead role for this newsletter! Cheetah has been a consistent contributor to the Weekly Rollup ever since he joined the DAO as a guest pass a few months ago. He will be stepping into this role to develop the systems needed to collaborate with the various project champions so that we can provide clear, actionable updates to the bDAO.

We had our first Writers Workshop this week, and the Tactic of the Week was a presentation from me on how to write great conclusions. Catch up by reading the tactic document or listening to the audio recording. Don’t forget to RSVP to weekly Writers Workshops on Wednesdays at 10am PT.
On Thursday, we had an epic two-hour EPA meeting where we discussed how to rework our editing flow and institute a group of Staff Editors, whom I plan to refer to as The Editors Circle. Keep an eye out for a follow-up proposal from me that will name the members of the The Editors Circle, detail how the process will work within the EPA, and share some concrete tactics on how we can up-skill editors.
Lastly, I’ve collected feedback from contributors in various time zones and have determined that EPA Coordinator Office Hours are necessary for me to hear from contributors who can’t make the regular EPA meeting on Thursday. So, I will be taking a page from Dev Guild’s book and holding an alternate time zone meeting on Thursdays at 7am PT/3pm UTC to ensure I have a space for other contributors to share ideas for me to take to the later meeting. This will dually serve as my office hours. If you can make the normal EPA meeting, you don’t need to come to this earlier one, but I always love to hang out with you all :) RSVP here.
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and tireless work as we continue to build the first decentralized publishing house ever!

Hey frens, it’s been an exciting week, with many things happening, such as the Season 3 launch event. Since that event, we have seen a significant increase in new people joining the DAO, including the Writers Guild.
We are continuing to strive towards higher levels of quality. This has resulted in some recent changes. First, we are moving in the direction of forming a team of staff editors, who will be responsible for raising the bar of our quality standards and for helping newer editors attain our minimum requirements.
The second change is that I have removed the option for people to submit previously written pieces of work for the writing test. The main reason for this is that if people want to contribute to the guild, they will need to start writing sooner or later, so why not start now? There is also the possibility that you could get paid for it, and the sooner you get paid and realise you actually can make a living in the DAO, the sooner you will go Bankless.
The last point to note is that we now have two new Community Call notetakers: @Ssasho0 and @AustinFoss. They both did a great job during the previous two Community Calls, so we have agreed to share the role between the two of them. Great job guys!
Writing test now only accepts new submissions
The purpose of the editing test is currently changing
Still helpful for getting newsletter tasks
But we are not currently taking on editors for the EPA
We are in the process of creating a team of staff editors
Those that pass the editing test may then become mentees of the new staff editors
The writing test is under review. We want it to better suit the needs of the newsletter so we are considering ways we can adapt it and to better assess people for the newsletter

The market may be down, but the BANK is still flowing!! The Writers Guild has received funding from the Grants Committee for Season 3. On January 19, 592K BANK was deposited into the multi-sig. Transaction details can be found here.
Coordinape rewards were also distributed this weekend. Details of that transaction can be found here. Of 45 participants, 38 members received some portion of 100K BANK. This season’s Coordinape round had 17 new recipients compared to last season’s Coordinape round. Although we saw a significant increase in receivers, the number of givers remained stagnant. Only 19 members allocated and distributed GIVE tokens, and 3 of those were Governance Role Holders who opted out!
Currently the Writers Guild multi-sig is holding:
I have been working on updating notion page permissions. I have already reached out to many Writers Guild members to confirm their email addresses and add them to the list of approved users who should have access to our pages. These email addresses will also be used to identify specific contributors in our bounty tracking process. With the assistance of Links, our privacy is intact and our email addresses will only be visible to Writers Guild members.
As far as permissions and access to the notion pages, all members will be able to edit all pages under the Writers Guild main page - except the Writers Guild Directory. Only Governance and Project Role Holders will be able to edit that page. It will be open to comments from everyone else. I haven’t completed the process yet. I plan on having that done by the end of the week.
If you have any questions concerning bounties, remunerations, access, or permissions, just tag me. Happy writing until then!!

The issue of the quality of the work we are publishing has surfaced, and has gained traction in the EPA. You are a talented writer, editor, or both, though it appears you may not be making the most of the resources available to ensure that every piece that goes out, no matter what the publication, has been given the best treatment and is highly polished. For some pieces, this may mean you could be editing it a little (or a lot!) more deeply. For other pieces, this means there isn’t as deep a connection between you and the author—or in the case where you are the author, you and the editor—as may have been useful. Rather than coax this effort from our existing workflows, we’ll be exploring new ways to provide you with the tools and resources you need to take your work up another level, and to create a culture where we work together to realize the highest potential of each individual member.
Together, we will take each other to new heights. Together, we’ll fly even higher.
Thank you for your time, attention, and energy. You could be anywhere else, but you choose to be here, and for that I am grateful.
In service to you, the Guild, and the DAO,
nonsense 🏴
