Dearest Pupils, Scribblers, and Scribes,
This issue is packed with a lot of information surrounding the operations of the Guild, as well as some pertinent announcements that involve the DAO at large, one regarding governance, and the other regarding an ongoing competition. As we continue to grow, you will find that we’ll have more and more updates available in the Scribe’s Quill to keep you abreast of the inner and outer workings, to help you make the most of your time here in the Guild. Take about 20 minutes, grab your favorite beverage, and soak in the signs of our development.
Welcome to The Scribe’s Quill.

Read and vote: GSE and Quorum: The DAO’s Options to Repair Governance Processes
The DAO’s current governance structure involves a fairly high quorum, which is fairly unrealistic. According to the 2021 Mid-Year Report by ForeFront, BANK is the most widely held social token—meaning that more wallets hold BANK than any other social token—and this draws up some issues, the most widely apparent of which is that of all of the wallets holding BANK, there is a small percentage actively contributing to the DAO. Consider this: how many of you hold ENS tokens but do not participate in their governance?
Our own Samanthaj has drawn up a forum post regarding how our lack of quorum scuttled the GSE program, and offers some insight and suggestions on how to address this issue.DAO Heat

The Newsletter Team is adopting Samanthaj’s Editors Circle Proposal starting this week. Last week we discussed changes in the workflow and how best to implement the new model. We will likely continue to iterate on best practices over the next few weeks as we navigate this new process.
EPA
We had another excellent, educational Writers Workshop on Wednesday. Hiro presented tactics for structuring articles and we had a fun discussion around different ways to play with structure. We were also lucky to have a number of new members drop in. Catch up by reading the document or listening to the audio recording here.
The new Editors Circle is in full swing and the submission channels are open again. For more on the specifics on how the Editors Circle functions, read this document. And, as this document is a work in progress, feel free to leave comments.
Upcoming in the EPA is:
Discussion on how to better incentivize writers to write.
P0@Ps for completed articles to help writers build on-chain resumes.
Getting into a good rhythm with the Editors Circle workflow, then allowing mentees in.
bDAO history pieces on Mirror.
“How we’re building the first decentralized publishing house” pieces on Mirror.
Lots more fun with words as always :)
See ya around!
Client Services
“How can we help you?”
Season 3 has already seen an expansion of Client Services. First on the operations side, the core team has expanded, and a few project managers have been added: Hiro Kennelly and FF Strauf will be folded in to assist with DAO-2-Client coordination. Now on the client side of things:
Yearn Finance was very please with the first of a two articles developed by Client Services. The second is due out shortly next week. We’ve appreciated collaborating with such a flagship DeFi client.
MakerDAO has extended its desire to coordinate with the BanklessDAO Writers Guild via our Client Services arm, requesting additional efforts all focused around new developments in their product and how its even more tailored for the web3 space.
Tally.Cash (a MetaMask-style project designed to operate as a DAO, and return equity to its token holders) has just fallen into alignment with CS to create a triangulated approach to sharing their innovative product: one technical piece, one Q&A style interview, & one an open-ended personal experience op-ed. We look forward to delivery.
BanklessDAO, and specifically the Writer’s Guild, pools an incredible body of Web3 oriented authors that bring an educational voice to external clients whom wish to collaborate with our evolving brand. If you have a cool project you think we’d like to hear about you can reach us on Telegram.

FreedomFighter | Talent Scout
The Talent Scout Office Hours has become one of the highlights of my week. I enjoy meeting new (and old) members and offering help. Usually, after people find out what they need to know, we have a laid back chat about the DAO, crypto, life. It’s a great place to hang out. So, whether you are new or not, come along to our next Talent Scout Office Hours. They take place on Tuesdays 7-8pm UTC.
Ever since the S3 Launch event, we have seen an increase in guest pass holders joining the Writers Guild. There is also an increase in people enquiring about and completing the writing and editing tests.
Also, one of our goals is to change the writing test so that it better assesses the skills required for the newsletters. I will be meeting with the newsletter coordinators next week, taking the first step towards improving the test. Writers Guild Strong.
Ap0ll0517.eth | Secretary
There have been no changes to the Writers Guild multi-sig. Last week our treasury was valued at $35,046 and this week it’s valued at $34,809. That’s only $237 difference which equates to a 0.68% reduction in asset value. Here is a visual representation of the treasury.
Notion permissions are almost complete. There are a handful of members who have not yet provided their email addresses to be added to the list of authorized users with edit access. Some of you may have tried to edit your entries in the Writers Guild Directory. Currently, everyone only has comment access. The only people with edit access to that page are guild role holders. Once the directory is complete, and everyone has access to the Writers Guild notion pages, I will change the permission of the Directory so all members have edit access to that as well.
As January comes to a close, I will be getting payment info together to submit remunerations. We try to reward all our contributors on the first Friday of every month, and 2/4/22 is our next scheduled transaction. If you are a new contributor, Ap0ll0517.eth will be reaching out to you to retrieve your ETH address so we can send you some BANK!!
Also, since this Friday is our next scheduled remuneration, I feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to open the Secretary office for some official training and apprenticeships. If anyone is interested in the responsibilities of the Secretary office, Ao0ll0517.eth will be demonstrating the process of remunerating contributors. This will include recording bounties, creating a .csv file to send a bulk payment, and actually executing the payment using parcel.money. I will be hosting this event in the Writer’s room immediately following the weekly CC.
Finally, a multi-sig position is opening up as one of the signers is interested in stepping down. Our current policy is to have 3/5 signers approve a transaction. There are monthly transactions which will require you to connect your wallet and sign and/or execute a transaction. Most of our transactions are sponsored by parcel.money so we don’t have to worry about paying ETH out of our personal wallets to cover gas costs. However, there are times where we will have to pay ETH out of our personal wallets because parcel.money doesn’t sponsor every type of transaction. Be on the lookout for more news concerning this open position. Until then, happy writing!

What an incredible experience to work in the Guild! Innovation is a constant: as we continue to grow, we continue to find new ways to operate. While not every solution is a win, the simple fact that you’re on board and willing to explore and test solutions is powerful. With fresh concerns of quality assurance in the publishing pipeline, coupled with a desire to help you become better at your craft and uplevel the entire Guild in skill, the Editors Circle has been given life. Though much still needs to be worked out regarding details in the operation, and how it will interface with all teams within the Guild, the advent of this group signals a commitment by the Guild to do all we can to build the Guild.
Beyond the Editors Circle, we have proposals a-brewin’ with outside entities to create more opportunities for you to develop, share, and flex your talent. As we continue on this trajectory, it is possible that one day the Guild will be the de facto operation where others will turn for content of the written word variety. We’ve become a well-recognized name in the crypto space. Soon, we’ll be a well-recognized name in the tradFi space as well, as more and more organizations turn to blockchain technology for solutions.
And be on the lookout for an upcoming initiative to drive more Guild-native content through the pipeline and onto our publications. Guild-native means you. So grab your pens, highlighters, reading specs, paper, tablet, writing app … whatever the fuck you use to write, and get writing, because you’ll have an opportunity to earn more BANK than normal on a piece of yours that gets published. More work for you, more work for our editors, more BANK all around, and everyone wins!
Thank you for your part in the Guild.
In service to you, the Guild, and the DAO,
nonsense 🏴
